Jacksonville, FL Beachcombers
Group Leader: Carissa Clifton
Carrissa Clifton started the Jacksonville Beachcombers in
October 2005. Since then the group has grown to 23 members!
Carissa says, “Not to brag, but they are the most amazing
women that I have ever met!! All of us come from different
backgrounds, share different experiences and even different
techniques used in raising our child(ren).”
The
group has an English Professor, a military wife, a couple of
Yoga Instructors (Carissa included), and Real Estate Agent --
just to name a few. Members discuss every issue under the
sun... ranging from birth experiences to feeding Organic
foods and even sex after childbirth. These are all issues
that are important to new mothers and it helps new members know
that they are not alone in their experiences - good or bad.
“With the topic of Baby Blues in the lime-light these days, I
believe SeeMommyRun groups are a great way to help other mothers
know that what they are going through and feeling is natural and
normal; and even help combat and overcome some of the factors
that cause the Blues.” Carissa continues, “Some of the
mothers have thanked me for getting this group up-and-running,
but I should be thanking them!! These mothers are my Muses...
they inspire me to learn more, do more, and be more than just a
'Stay-at-Home-Mom'. The friendships that have been made and the
advice that has been shared makes Motherhood that much more
fulfilling!!”
The
group also welcomes veteran moms to the mix with open arms.
Moms with older children lend such an important aspect and
advice to the newer mothers.
The
Beachcombers are also working on a fundraising idea for a local
children's charity called Shoreline Stroller Derby. The plan is
to have the moms with strollers raise money by racing from one
end of the beach to the other (appx. 2.5 miles). This race will
give the group members something to work towards while helping
children. They will also try to get the other local SMR groups
involved.
